S.U.A.T Titania and Pixie Tank and dress

It's time for another Stitch upon a time Pattern Showcase / Sale!

This time round, we have a wonderful summer staple - Titania Top and Tunic and Pixie top and dress!

It's SO SO cute!

I love the razor back. It feels so athletic! And I know what you are thinking - what about the bra? Well, this pattern comes with an inner built in bra! I made mine with it so I can skip the strapless bras which we all know isn't comfy nor that secure!

I made mine as a top length so that I can squeeze both my top and my girl's dress out of a yard of fabric. And I think I still have enough remnants for something else for her!

Here's my girl in her Pixie dress. She looks adorable if I may say so myself hehe. I love the flare of the dress and there's also a slightly less flared version.

The dress came together really quickly because there isn't any gathering. And the only band is the neckband. The armscye is done by hemming - set up your twin needles or coverstitch cos there's quite some hemming to do! hehe. But trust me, it's worth it!!

Buttons and Bibs Coastal Crossover

Hi everyone! I made another twinning set! This time round, I made the Coastal Crossover from Buttons and Bibs!

My version is the V neck with faux lace (printed) CL and black modal handkerchief skirt in top length. Her version is black CL with the faux lace CL as a skirt in dress length. I didn't bother hemming mine and hers was rolled hemmed with a serger so both dresses were really fast to sew!

I really do love twinning with this cutie pie!

Here's some photos of how beautiful this dress looks worn!

We hope you liked our versions of the Buttons and Bibs Coastal Crossover!

Summer days, Summer Sewing~

Where I live, we get summer pretty much all year round! So while most of my northern hemisphere friends are sewing up for cold weather, I still need to ensure I have a decent summer wardrobe!

Since it is the school holidays, this is the best time for me to sew up on summer staples: shorts, tees, that kinda thing. It also means I have time to sew for family too!

Here's a top I made for my mum that I paired with shorts meant for me!

Despite our height differences, (I'm a little taller) we wear pretty much the same size clothes so I can model the clothes for her (she's shy!) This top is Winter Wear Design's Traveller Tee and it's a raglan top that you can make with a woven panel. COOOOL!

I had a piece of textured Japanese Dobby fabric that I bought some time back that I realised was too small for most woven top patterns (always buy more than 1 yard!!) and I was just feeling sad about it when I realised I can use it with Traveller Tee! And because it has texture, I thought pairing it with a navy stretch crepe knit would be lovely and I like to think that it really is cute!

In fact, I have half a mind to not gift it hehe (actually no, I will gift it then I will go back to that shop and buy the same fabric to make another to twin with her! yay!)

The shorts that I am wearing with this is the Endless Summer Shorts. This one I made is with a cotton sateen twill that gets really soft and comfy with every wash. I like how the shorts look on me though now that I am older, I think I would extend the inseam just a tad more cos I prefer more coverage these days hehe. (As I am typing this, I do realise just how old I sound lol!)

Both Traveller Tee and Endless Summer Shorts are great staple patterns to have in your pattern stash and you can really get a lot of sews out of them!

They are on sale for a very limited time ($3 each!) now for WWD 12 Days of Christmas so don't miss out!

Goober Pea Design Split Pea

I made 2 Split Peas recently. Exactly the same except for size. One for my girl and one for my niece.

I made this one in top length. (There's also tunic and dress length) Isn't this top lovely? The split back design makes the top so roomy. A perfect top for playing and running! I love how she can do all her toddler rough-ing and tumbling and be really comfy while doing so.

No photos of my niece so here's more photos of my little one!

One thing to note though, I used CL for both outer and inner fabric. That makes the top thicker and the drape of the peekaboo is not as ideal as I would have preferred. If you have a thinner knit or even a knit that drapes beautifully, I think the effect would be even lovelier!

That said, I wanted that rainbow CL cos it matched so well with the rainbow print. And I think the little ones both loved it so I'm still going to consider it a WIN!

Goober Pea Design Mabel Top

I had the chance to test for Mabel. This is a basic bodice + circle skirt / handkerchief skirt dress with the option of normal sleeves or puff sleeves. A staple pattern in any little girl's wardrobe I must say!

I really like handkerchief skirts recently so I took no time at all to come up with this cute little outfit for my girl. Projector sewing for the win! hehe.

Not sure if you can see the hemming in the photo, but the hemming is very pretty both inside and outside because the pattern came with instructions on how to hem a square skirt such that it looks good inside!

The top length looks super cute with her shorts. And I think it will go well with leggings too.

I was thinking of trying a double handkerchief skirt next. I think that would look really sweet too!

Oh, I used custom knit for this. And I realised that custom knits tend to be really tight. I think moving on, I will probably need to size up every time I use custom knits otherwise, she will outgrow her new clothes in no time.

Winter Wear Design Radiant Rouched Top

So excited to share this beautiful beautiful pattern that i had finished testing from Winter Wear Designs not too long ago.

I have this thing for gathers and asymmetrical necklines and interesting details and this pattern ticks all the boxes and makes my heart sing when i see the finished product I made.

This Radiant Rouched Top I made uses stretch crepe fabric from Spotlight and the drape is just perfect for the top. I made mine asymmetrical with mutton chop long sleeves.

The pattern also comes with a high neckline, normal sleeves/mutton chop sleeves in cap, 3/4 length and long length.

This green top is made with milk silk, and left unhemmed cos i got lazy and also cos milk silk doesn't fray. (Ok ok I'm lazy 🤣🤣🤣 but u got to admit it does look good unhemmed!)

If you like what I made, you can buy urself a copy here!

Pattern feature: Neck Tie top by Winter Wear Designs

If you know me, you would know that I love me a good classic top in black or blue. It's just MY color and so easy to match.

When I saw Winter Wear Design's neck tie top, I knew it would make a really classy staple wardrobe piece so I went searching for the right fabric in my stash. I found a beautiful black modal fabric, very thin, with a slight sheen and very drapey - PERFECT! And so, I set to work!

Projector sewing meant this was an incredibly fast sew. The entire top took me 2 hours from cutting to sewing to finishing. Winter Wear Design's many patterns have projector files and the pattern designer Suzanne Winters take all feedback seriously so she is constantly making improvements to her projector files to make it more user friendly for us projector users. 💗💗💗

I love how this top paired with a cute pencil skirt is giving me a Friday night OL (office lady) vibe. I can see professionals wearing this to work in the day then going for dinner in a fancy restaurant after.

What is great about this is that with a different fabric you can have a very different look, as you can see from the photos in the listing here or in the blogposts linked below. I made my top with the cuffed bishop sleeves for a soft, romantic look which I felt was very flattering. There's also a beautiful gathered poet sleeve which is shorter and really cute. In fact there are three sleeve options, so you can choose the sleeve option that works best for your shape!

Let's talk about the neck tie! The pattern piece included notches for you to position the tie as per pattern instructions - great if you want to achieve the same look as shown in the listing photos. But, if you are like me, you may prefer to try on the top before sewing on the neck tie and adjust your tie in the mirror to decide the right angle for you. Initially, I thought I may prefer it tied right in the middle, but in the end, I shifted it slightly to my right and marked the position before sewing. Sewing your own clothes means being able to decide on small things like this to make the clothes truly yours!

And yes, before I forget, the top can be hemmed the usual way or banded. AND if u band it, technically, you wouldn't need to cover stitch anything! YAY! I also happen to think that banding it means that wearing it over a pair of jeans like this can change up the outfit to a more casual look. So cute!

And finally, if my make excites you, here's something that makes the pattern even more exciting:

The neck tie top is on release pricing of just $3 from October 7th to October 13th 2020!!

Then after, it will join the $5 Wardrobe builder group! Yay for a great pattern in a great price!

Pattern Showcase: Winter Wear Design's Tourist Tie Dress

Sometimes we need a little special detail in our dresses for them to look interesting and fun. And a really fun detail I liked in some of my retail wear tops/dresses is a side tie - in fact, I own quite a few RTW that has a side tie feature just cos it's so cute and on trend.

Some time back, I managed to test Winter Wear Design's Tourist Tie Top, Tunic and Dress and it's just PERFECT for recreating the kind of look i love!

There are several sewing patterns out there already that sports a similar look. But what stands out for Winter Wear Design's version is the fact that hers can be made using both knits AND wovens. Yes! Knits and Wovens all in 1 pattern.

I made 3 versions to showcase how the pattern will look in 3 different fabrics:

This pink tie top is in a tencel blend, woven. Zero stretch. Made according to instructions in my size. If you use a fabric with less drape, it may not look as good so one thing to note is to always check the drape of your fabric, and for this top, you may wish to use fabric with better drape e.g. rayon, rayon blends.

This purple top is made using a 4 way stretch modal fabric. It's very light and drapey and it is really comfortable to wear. I made it as per instructions for knit fabric - you sized down 1 size in width.

My last version is a dress made with 2 way stretch tencel blend fabric. Now, if you are intending to make a dress, you might like to know that this pattern can be a fabric hog. Thankfully, there is a way around that and the pattern has instructions on how to cut the tie portion out separately and hide the joint within the tie so that is definitely an option that you can consider if you wish to save fabric.

Hope my post has given you some ideas of what kind of top/dress you may wish to do with the pattern. Again, here's the aff link for those interested: Tourist Tie Top, Tunic and Dress
