How I started sewing...

In November 2017, I gave birth to my second child - my darling little girl and took time off work to look after her as a stay home mum. While watching my little one grow has its rewards, it got really lonely at times and not having any hobbies that I could do with a little one at home meant that my mental well-being was not really in tip-top shape.

After 1 year of looking after a baby, I decided that I needed to occupy myself with something other than mum duties. So sometime at the end of 2018/ start of 2019, I bought myself a sewing machine, a Brother FS101. While it wasn't a "basic" model, it certainly was a modest but decent beginner sewing machine.

I always enjoyed crafting back in my student days and I had done quite a bit of hand-sewing when I was in secondary school. I remembered making mostly stuffed toys to giveaway to friends. I was hoping that sewing will bring me some respite from "mum-ing" duties and give me an avenue to "just be".

I spent loads of time on Youtube, watching and learning from people's videos. In my research and  came across a sewing blog by Rin and found out about her little boxy dress sewing challenge where she says she'll teach us to draft and sew up our very own little boxy dress. 💓

And that, my friends, was how I took the plunge!

Behold! My very first piece of me-made clothing. I still cringe when I see the bad fit and finishing of all my old pieces but they will always hold a place dear to my heart. Cos they tell me how much I have learnt and grown since then. =)
